Heather – Today was my third visit to Cozy Tea in 5 Points, and undoubtedly the best visit I’ve had.
The previous two visits had been Saturday afternoons, and the tea room was packed full. On our second visit, there had been a medium size and particularly loud and demanding party, and most of the wait staff was attending them. Our waiter had made a mistake with the check, so there was going to be a temporary extra charge on there (although he apologized, it put a slight damper on the experience). And another waiter accidentally hit my shoulder with a plate. So basically our second visit was not quite the relaxing experience we were hoping to share with our out-of-town guest.
My third visit was with a new friend from instagram, and on a Monday afternoon. At first we were the only patrons, but while we were there a few other tables were filled. The service was completely spot on for this visit, and it was definitely relaxing. We were able to spend a few hours enjoying the tea and scones and talking, without feeling rushed out. Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive.
The decor is what you’d expect for a tea shoppe, in a good way. A nostalgic feel and plenty of tea goodies decorate the area. One of my favorite touches is their use of mixed tea sets, so you are almost guaranteed to get a different tea cup and saucer on each visit.
Cozy Tea has a whole case full of truffles, which I have yet to try because on each visit I have to have a scone. So far the Vanilla Sugar has been my favorite, but the Cherry Coconut is also delicious.
Their selection of tea is plentiful. Alex (who isn’t a big tea fan), really enjoyed the Irish Cream tea on our first visit. I love chai tea, and would recommend their Indian Spiced Chai if you like that kind of tea. On this visit I had the Raspberry Honey, and found it a very nice compliment to the scone.
I would recommend visiting Cozy Tea on a weekday (especially for your first visit). Enjoying a pot of tea while talking with a friend is how a tea room outing should go, so don’t visit for any kind of hurried experience. I look forward to visiting again and hopefully getting to the truffles!
