Alex: The Florida Creamery is without a doubt our favorite ice cream parlor in Jacksonville. Of course, it helps that it’s a short walk away for those last minute cravings, but even if it wasn’t right around the corner it would still be our favorite. The interior is reminiscent of 1950s Florida – filled with tourist state maps, tropical vistas, and bright pastels that evoke just the right amount of tacky nostalgia. It fits perfectly into its little nook off of St Johns, and more than just aesthetically!
They have a rotating selection of ice cream, so we never know what we’ll be tasting when we come in. So far, our favorite has been the salted caramel ice cream, with its candied pecans and swirls of salty-sweet caramel. There have been several other flavors that have come close to rivaling it, including their coffee ice cream. Lately it seems to have become so popular that almost runs out faster than they can stock it!
They also offer food, not the least of which being their chicken salad pitas. I love chicken salad in almost all forms, but theirs is by far one of the best I’ve had in Jacksonville, combining curry with fresh fruit and just a bit of pepper to make a tasty sandwich to buy after you feel guilty about eating the ice cream cone.
The Florida Creamery has been in their Avondale spot almost four years now, and it has certainly become our go-to desert place which is no small feat considering all of the amazing bakeries we have nearby!
